Teens

We have a complete range of music instruction for teens. We  teach most western instruments and voice at all levels and in most styles including pop, rock, r & b, gospel, reggae. hip hop, and classical.

If a student's voice is changing (because of puberty), we suggest postponing vocal instruction until the change is complete. Vocal cords during this time are extremely fragile and could be permanently damaged by premature training.

Our innovative teaching methods ensure successful results quickly in an environment that makes the learning enjoyable and comfortable. Instruction is available at the student's home or at the school location weekdays and weekends, by appointment. Our lessons are generally one hour long. We also offer half and three-quarter hour lessons but only at the school. We teach ear training, theory, reading and writing music, as part of each lesson.

After a student is fluent in music notation and theory, we also teach improvisation (playing by ear). In addition, we work with groups and garage bands. Instruction for groups is divided into two parts each week: one individual lesson and one lesson in ensemble (with the group as a whole).

We also coach students from private and public schools who are competing at a regional, state or national level. In addition, we train semi-professionals and professionals for auditions, demos, stage and television work.

Regardless of age, prior to being accepted as a student, each candidate must pass our comprehensive two-hour music aptitude test. Unlike other tests which evaluate accomplishment, the Sdoia-Satz Music Aptitude Test assesses raw, untrained, natural  musical aptitude.
