The Husky Gang program has been specially designed for children 2 – 7. The program uses the books and cds from the “Husky Gang" series (Warner Bros) by Phyllis Sdoia-Satz, as workbooks. This exciting, fun program teaches young children the rudiments of music by combining elements of singing, listening, playing instruments, a humorous adventure story line with catchy songs, animal characters, dressing up in costume, and a child’s natural capacity for make believe.
♫
The members of the Husky Gang: Sam, an Alaskan malamute,
Sheba, Stormy and Sabrina, three Siberian huskies and
Sharon, the Siamese cat are the “music teachers” at the
fictional Husky Gang Music School. When children enroll in
this program, they pick an animal name of their own and
become a character in the story. Students also wear costumes
during practice and lessons. As they read the books, through
a unique mix of reality and make believe, students learn the
basics of music.
♫
Within days they
learn:
-
To differentiate
elements of
pitch and
rhythmic value
-
To count
musically in a
way that makes
the "mathematics
of music" easy
to understand
-
Left, right,
high, low, fast,
slow, loud,
soft, abc,123
-
The letters of
the musical
alphabet
-
How to play
simple pieces by
reading music
notation
And...they are
having so much fun,
they don't even
realize they are
learning.
♫
The Husky Gang
program is best used
with an instructor.
However, it is
designed in such a
way that a parent,
even without prior
musical training,
can just read the
stories to the
child.
♫
By following the simple instructions in the book, the parent will be able to help the child successfully learn the basics of music, quickly and in a fun environment.
♫
Students in the
Husky Gang Program"
are required to take
one hour group
lesson per week and
one half-hour
private lesson every
week. No aptitude
test is required.
The groups are small
(between 3 and 6 in
a group) and
age-appropriate.
These classes are
taught by Ms.
Sdoia-Satz.
