Family Support
Training
Learning music is a
wonderful hobby. It
allows students the
freedom to express
themselves
creatively, and it is an
outlet for the
disappointments or
distresses of
everyday living. However, it takes
time, effort and
commitment to be
able to play a
musical instrument,
and family
attitude, support
and involvement are
important factors in
a student's
progress. While it
is not the job of family members to
teach music, they
should know what to
do, and, even more
important, what
not to do in
order to help the
student derive the
greatest benefit
from lessons. ♫
Under certain
circumstances, it's
best to leave the
student alone when
he or she practices. At
other times, it's
best to stay with
the student. Children need more
supervision than
adults. With the
right support,
playing music will
become a natural
part of children's
lives. Adults
who are studying
music for hobby or
therapy also need the
emotional support of
their spouses,
relatives and/or
friends. ♫
As part of our
positive approach to
music, we teach
family members how
to help the student
minimize frustration
and maximize
interest. ♫
